Every Season Gets a Facelift

Chapter 3 / Season 4

Every new season of the most popular game in the world has to offer something unique and exciting. I was tasked with conceptualizing the aesthetic for the upcoming season titled: Paradise. After learning of the intentions of the larger narrative I set out to create a transformative visual identity.

The entire game island was going to be slowly corrupted, all leading to a gigantic battle conclusion. The team and I wanted to reflect that be illustrating the degradation of the environment through the logomark. Each successive iteration warps and distorts to become more indicative of the experience.

Kit & Kaboodle

In order to support the visual experience, the team create an iconographic family of pictograms and uniquely styled design system elements to connect to the new seasons thematic events.

  • A combination of characters released during this period and relevant icons all connected through “washi tape” a pictorial filled japanese tape.

  • Some previously branded typographic treatments and heavily stylized fonts connect the visual style to the rest of the Fortnite brand.

  • Applying a new color palette to already existing components allows for a fresh look at a new season while staying truth to the brand asethetic.

When it all comes together, the vibes are eerily futuristic and slightly ominous. Exactly what the season needed. Do you want a ticket to paradise?
